This is a fun origami trick when you need to organize in a pinch. Just a couple of folds here and there, and you get a cute paper origami box basket, ready to hold your daintiest of craft supplies. Read on to learn how.
Start out with a rectangular sheet of paper. For this tutorial, I cut a 6-in x 7.5-in sheet of scrapbook paper. A4 or US Letter sized paper should work just as well.
Fold the rectangle in half, crosswise. To keep on track with the folds, make sure to make an upwards fold.
Next, make another crosswise fold. This time, make a downwards fold.
Next, we will make a series of corner dog-ear folds. Start with the top right corner. Fold downward to form a triangle.
Do the same with the top left corner.
You should end up with a trapezoid shape.
Undo the dog-ear folds. We will repeat, but in the opposite direction. Fold the bottom right corner upward to form a triangle.
Repeat the dog-ear fold with the bottom left corner.
Undo the dog-ear folds, and the quarter fold.
We will make another series of corner folds. starting with only the first layer of the top corner, make a downward fold to form a triangle.
Repeat with the top left corner.
Make the same dog-ear folds with the bottom corners.
Note the edges of the right corner folds.
Make a crease along that edge.
Unfold. Make a note of the edges of the left corner folds.
This time, make a crease along that edge.
Now, we will start to form the base of the box. Hold onto the top corners.
Fold that section down.
Next, hold the paper down and slowly pull the center towards you.
Carefully, form the sides of the box.
Take note of the diagonal crease in the corner square.
Make a fold along the diagonal line.
Repeat with the other corner. You should end up with two flaps.
Tuck in the flaps into the side pockets.
Lovely, right?
Fill it with your teeny tiny things. Makes for adorable tabletop organization.
Use paper in different designs and sizes.
Try and make your own origami box baskets!
