Here’s another throwback to my letter-writing note-passing highschool days. I’ve posted this Pull-Tab Note tutorial before, and so I’m following it up with something similar. It’s similar to the origami money envelope, but is definitely simpler. To sharpen your letter-folding origami skills, read on!

I rediscovered my Handy Dandy Paper Stack by DCWV the other day, so I decided to use some sheets for this tutorial. Boohoo, DCWV seems to have discontinued this totally adorable paper stack! 😭 I cut out a rectangular sheet to US Letter size (8.5 x 11 in). These dimensions work best, but any comparable dimensions should work just as well.

Start out by folding one corner to meet the opposite edge of the paper, forming a triangle.

Undo the fold, and repeat with the other corner.

You’ll end up with what I call pyramid folds. Gently allow the sides to pucker and collapse inward. I usually tell workshop participants to listen to the paper and the folds, not going against what comes naturally.

Next, take the right corner of the triangle to meet the top corner.

Repeat with the lefr corner.

Once done, it should look something like this.

Next, take the right triangle, pucker and collapse the folds to form a square.

Repeat on the other side.

Once done, it should look something like this. Next, take the center corners of the two squares.

Pull gently, and fold towards the opposite corner of the squares.

Fold and score creases.

 

You’ll notice a small downward pointing triangle in the center. Fold this flap upwards.

 

Next, fold the top most triangle downwards.

The triangle should perfectly meet and match up against the center folds.

Tuck the peak of that triangle fold in and under.

 

This will hold the top portion in place.

Next, fold the right flap over towards the center.

Do the same on the left side.

Next, fold the bottom right corner, meeting the center fold.

Repeat on the left side.

We’re almost there!

Lastly, tuck in the bottom flap in and under the top flap.

All done!

These cute little letter envelopes make for perfect in-class note-passing. Please don’t tell your anyone I said that. 🙂
